A Study in Light: New Mexico

There’s something so particular about the sunlight in New Mexico’s high desert. Ethereal yet crisp. Golden-hued and deep red-bellied, yet in even in October that sun-drenched country can already be deceivingly cold and unrelenting. Big open skies mean big sun which means extra eye creases and burnt lips.

I’m in love with it, fair skin be damned.

On my most recent road trip down through the Land of Enchantment, I spent a few days at a truly magical AirBnb, where I indulgently admired the light flood through the high walls of our cozy adobe studio. The sunsets on Sacred Mountain sparked as much joy as they did profound anticipatory nostalgia, knowing I’d miss them as soon as I left. The slow pastel sunrises left me calm and meditative.

Step into a tale of light and let yourself day-dream for a little while.
