It’s hard to remember the first few months of the pandemic- they were quite a blur of darkness and watermelon sour patch. But somehow during that confusing and stressful time I managed to get out a bit and shoot around Boulder. I put together my experiences shooting cloud inversions and other phenomena for Gobe Magazine, in an article called “How to Capture Cloud Inversions and Iridescence with a Variable ND”, which you can check out here.
Cloud inversions have long been an obsession of mine as they completely transform a landscape into something foreign and surreal. They create an eerie quiet calmness and make for interesting photos. I found using Gobe’s Variable ND filter helped extenuate certain scenes to capture the rolling fog in a more ethereal way.
If not you’re not too familiar with lens filters, no worries, the article also just gives information about how to find and capture cloud phenomena. Enjoy!
